Angel White is having some problems in her life. She felt isolated
and tormented by just living. She had frequent panic attacks and was always afraid
to leave home. By keeping herself isolated in her home she managed to shutout
her friends, family, and colleagues. Then she was also struggling with her finances.
This is when she decided to get psychological help. This worked, but only for a
short amount time. She didn't start to see a real improvement until she met Spencer,
who she found in an ad in a local newspaper. Spencer was a five year old black Labrador
retriever. He was the complete package with a bright red harness and a card
that stated that he was a certified service dog. With Spencer her life became a
lot more enjoyable, and a whole lot less scary. When she would have suicidal
thought he would urge her to come out and play, when she had nightmares he
would awaken her. When she went out and got nervous he was a tension breaker. Some
people just don’t realize how helpful these dogs are. About 70 percent of
people who need service dogs can’t afford them. It takes an average of $20,000 to
train these helpful canines.
